Nestle Pakistan Is Seeking to Establish a New Segment in $23bn Dairy Market in The Country

Nestle Pakistan is now providing pasteurised fresh milk as part of a pilot project, seeking to establish a new segment in $23bn dairy market in the country.

Bloomberg reported that the firm has been supplying the product to close to 100 homes in Lahore for the past three months using motorbikes and three-wheeler taxis.

Nestle Pakistan CEO Magdi Batato was quoted by Bloomberg as saying: "It's like when we started with our water gallons 20 years ago, which started with delivery to offices and households, it starts small and then spreads.

"There is a potential, but it's still niche in my view."

It is estimated that the dairy industry in Pakistan has a current value of around $23bn in a year and is expected to increase about 10%over the next five years. Currently 95% of dairy products sold are unprocessed.

In December 2014, a Pakistani dairy and juice company Engro Foods discontinued branded shop sales of fresh, pasteurised milk in the southern city of Karachi.

Commencing operations in 1988, Nestle Pakistan currently operates in two segments of milk and nutrition products.
