Cartridges and Vials Maker Vetter Has Launched Vetter-Ject

Cartridges and vials maker Vetter has launched Vetter-Ject, a closure system for prefilled syringes for use in highly-sensitive compounds such as biologics.

The closure is expected to cater to the pharmaceutical and biotech companies that are engaged in developing drugs involving sensitive and complex compounds.

Consisting a needle hub and a needle shield, the product assures a safer and simpler option for administering drugs in patients through an injection system, Vetter said.

The closure system, which is tamper-evident, is capable of supporting a baked-in siliconization of an integrated needle.

For the baked-in siliconization process for glass barrel, a lesser amount of silicon oil is required, making the closure suitable for silicon-sensitive drug products. The silicon content can also be adjusted as per requirements and reduced by up to up to 80%.

Vetter packaging development director Tilman Roedle said: "Our patented syringe closure system offers pharmaceutical and biotech companies more options for filling highly sensitive parenteral drugs.

"Patients and qualified medical personnel now have the advantage of the system's easy handling and high standards for product safety and integrity."

The closure is manufactured through a two-component injection molding of polypropylene and thermoplastic elastomer.

In recognition of its design, Vetter's new syringe closure system has secured two international awards, the IF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.

Vetter managing director Thomas Otto said: "The fact that two eminent juries recognize the novel attributes of Vetter-Ject, clearly demonstrates the full potential of our innovation."
