Chrysler Group Is Set to Recall Approximately 792,300 Jeep Models

Chrysler Group is set to recall approximately 792,300 Jeep models, including Jeep Grand Cherokees SUVs from the 2005-2007 model years and 2006-2007 Jeep Commanders, over an issue with ignition-switch performance.

The recall is part of an investigation into ignition switches by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Chrysler said in a statement, "Engineers are working to develop a remedy and Chrysler is committing now to conduct a recall out of an abundance of caution."

Preliminary investigation show that an outside force, usually attributed to contact with the driver's knee, could move ignition keys from the 'on' position, possibly causing engine to stall and disabling frontal airbags.

The company said it is aware of a one reported accident and complaints involving 0.015% of the subject vehicle population.

The potentially affected vehicles include 649,900 in the US, 28,800 in Canada; 12,800 in Mexico and 100,800 outside of the NAFTA region.

Owners of the affected vehicles have been advised to remove all items from their key rings, leaving only their ignition keys.
