Ulma, a supplier of packaging machinery and automated lines, has installed new tray-sealed packaging equipment at Traditional Norfolk Poultry’s (TNP) Shropham facility in UK to boost the latter’s productivity and improve shelf-life of organic poultry products.

UK based producer of organic poultry products, TNP, already operates Ulma’s Artic Flowrapper for packaging whole birds.

The new flexible, cost-effective tray-sealed skin packaging equipment, which include TSA 680 and Taurus 300, has replaced the TNP’s previous supplier’s equipment.

Capable of being integrated into complete lines for all types of trays and different printed top film materials, the TSA 680 traysealer provides a sealing process either on single-line or in double-line depending on the formats.

The automatic Taurus 300 tray-sealing machine is designed to pack all kind of pre-formed regular trays at high production speeds

In addition to improving productivity, the tray-sealed skin packaging technology is designed to provide extended shelf-life and improved store presentation with enhanced hygiene standards.

TNP sales and account manager Andy Holt said that the two machines provide enhanced MAP for better shelf life and also achieved the required production efficiencies while improving working conditions.

Holt added: “The installation went very smoothly and tool changes on the machines are very straightforward. They provide faster throughput even though we do a range of different portions, while from a hygiene perspective they are better machines because they are very easy to clean.

Holt noted that the Taurus allows TNP to produce bigger packs of the lesser cuts, thus helping with production efficiencies and profitability.

The Shropham facility is said to have higher production throughput of different sized portions such as fillets, wings, legs, thighs and drumsticks.
