The acquisition will help DDW, the manufacturer of natural colours, caramel colours and burnt sugars, to expand in the ingredient category of colouring foods.

Colouring foods are manufactured using fruits, vegetables and edible plant without the use of selective extraction and have no E-number requirement in the European Union.

The companies will enter into a sourcing agreement, which will help SVZ's proficiency in agronomy, fruit & vegetable cultivation, and juice processing with DDW's colour proficiency, applications competence, and sales channels.

DDW chairman and CEO Ted Nixon said: "The addition builds on DDW's global supply capability and broadens the range of both simple and custom color solutions for customers. Opening a natural colour manufacturing site in Ireland back in April also speaks to continued momentum as we celebrate our company's 150-year anniversary."

The company aims to offer eye-catching food and beverages using natural ingredients as raw materials. With this deal, DDW will be able to offer a wide array of natural colours, colouring foods, caramel colours and burnt sugars with the required consistency for many applications. The 150-year-old company operates 11 production sites in five continents for customers across 100 nations.

KleurCraft is a unit of global fruit and vegetable agribusiness SVZ International and part of the Royal Cosun group of companies.

Earlier this year, KleurCraft launched its new orange colour ingredients for healthy and clean label products. The orange range was developed to minimise beta-carotene content in food and beverage. It offers bright hues in a low beta-carotene formula, thereby enabling food manufacturers to modify their formulations in order to deal with the latest concerns relating to beta-carotene consumption.
