Ting Hsin Were Accused of Selling Cooking Oil That Was Contaminated with Animal Feed

Wei Ying-chung, a major stakeholder of Ting Hsin International Group, and four other executives were indicted by prosecutors in Taiwan for selling cooking oil that was contaminated with animal feed.

If convicted, Ying-chung will face 30-year jail, according to the prosecutors from the central county of Changhua, reports Xinhuanet.com.

In October, subsidiaries of the family-owned Hsin were allegedly found using animal feed in cooking oil to cut costs.

Before being taken into custody on 17 October, Cheng I Food Co., Ting Hsin Oil and Fat Industrial Co. and Wei Chuan Foods Corp chairman Wei had to resign from his position.

Ting Hsin Oil and Fat former president Chang Mei-feng, acting chairman Chen Mao-chia, Vietnamese trading company Dai Hanh Phuc Co owner Yang Chen-yi were also accused.

This is the second food safety scandal to hit the country. In September, Chang Guann Co. was allegedly found using kitchen waste in its lard, prompting massive recalls.
