Continental Has Unveiled a New Xl3 Solenoid Injector That Improves Combustion Process

Automotive supplier Continental has unveiled a new XL3 solenoid injector that improves combustion process of the gasoline direct-injection (GDI) engines.

The new injector has been used by the company in the new turbocharged 1.5L GDI engine and is claimed to fulfill the Euro-VI emission standards that are expected to come into force in future.

According to the company, the injector when combined with further-refined monitoring functions would be capable of decreasing particulate emissions in GDI engines.

Continental Powertrain Division Engine Systems Business Unit head Wolfgang Breuer said, "Precision metering, combined with multiple injection capability, helps to reduce the particulate emissions of GDI engines and can cut the costs of aftertreatment technology."

The injector comes with a controlled solenoid injection (COSI) function that monitors the closing rate of the injector needle, on the basis of which an integrated correction function adjusts the nominal injection values of the injector.

The new injector is said to feature the precision required for spray preparation and penetration characteristics under all combustion chamber conditions and also offers better fuel efficiency.
