Luceplan’s Ascent lamp wins Compasso d’Oro ADI Award 2016

The Ascent lamp designed by Daniel Rybakken in 2013 has won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI award for 2016, in the category Design for Living, assigned by the Association for Industrial Design ADI.

Founded in 1954, the Compasso d’Oro ADI award is the oldest and most authoritative prize for industrial design in the world, selecting products that stand out for their originality and functional-typological innovation, product ion processes, the materials used and the formal synthesis achieved.

Intimate and conceptual, Ascent offers many degrees of light intensity, thanks to very precise dimming made possible by the electronic circuit installed in the head of the lamp. The fundamental innovation is the unusual gesture with which the lamp is turned on and off, and the light is regulated. It is a vertical movement, making the small shade slide along the thin stem with a fluid, continuous motion, downward or upward.

The winner of Red Dot Design Award 2014 in the Product Design category, the Ascent lamp has brought Luceplan this new honour, confirming the excellence of the Milan-based company in the lighting design industry, and the fertile, brilliant collaboration with the talented Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken, factors that have led to the creation of objects that stand out for in-depth technological research, a high level of innovative, aesthetic and functional content, and impeccable formal quality.

General Manager of Luceplan, Patrizia Vicenzi says, “For us, the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2016 for Ascent is a source of great joy and pride. This is an important honour that confirms our capacity to produce innovative avant-garde lighting solutions, interpreting the needs of contemporary society, which demands exceptional performance that is never separated from beauty and practicality. The collaboration with Daniel has always been – and continues to be – a source of great satisfaction: the particular harmony between us has led to the creation of very rigorous, essential and technologically advanced objects that at the same time are poetic, evocative, emotionally engaging. I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the people who work with passion and dedication inside Luceplan, without whom this remarkable achievement would not have been possible.”

Luceplan also received double Honourable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2016, for the evocative and technological lamps Synapse and Tango, both made possible by the ongoing collaboration between Luceplan and Francisco Gomez Paz.
