Rosselkhoznadzor Has Lifted Ban on Beef Imports From Brazilian Slaughterhouses JBS

Rosselkhoznadzor, a Russian veterinary and phytosanitary service (VPSS), has lifted ban on beef imports from Brazilian slaughterhouses JBS, Marfrig Alimentos and Mataboi Alimentos.

In October, the country had suspended meat imports from ten processing plants in Brazil, due to some non-compliance with sanitary rules.

Reuters quoted the Brazilian Agriculture Ministry as then saying that the suspension affects six JBS plants, two of Minerva, one of Marfrig and one from Pamplona; however, it was unclear when the restrictions were placed on shipments from Mataboi.

JBS earlier said that the restrictions would not affect its sales, adding that the company would reroute beef from its other facilities to Russia.

Russia is expected to purchase more meat from Brazil after it imposed import ban from most of the US, Canadian and Mexican suppliers over concerns that the meat contained feed additives.

According to official customs data, in the first nine months of 2013, the country imported $3.2bn worth 825,200 tons of red meat from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States.
