Google and Ford to Set up New Company to Build Autonomous Cars

Two self driving car makers, Google and Ford are teaming up to create an independent company to build autonomous vehicles.

The companies have not made an official announcement yet, as they are expected to unveil the plan at CES show in Las Vegas next month.

Google has not only developed its self driving car but has also tested it on the roads of California, and Ford also recently tested its autonomous driving technology on the roads of California, and claimed that it has been developing the technology for more than a decade now.

The news comes in the wake of Google's announcement to separate its self driving unit from the Google brand and into Alphabet, and the latest partnership is expected to be related to the move.

Yahoo Autos cited Ford spokesman Alan as saying: "We keep these discussions private for obvious competitive reasons, and we do not comment on speculation."

The partnership is expected to benefit both companies as Google will gain insight on mass production of automobiles, which Ford is familiar with, and Ford will benefit from Google's years of real-world autonomous drive research.

The companies have been linked to one another in different ways as Google's head of the self-driving car project, John Krafcik, worked with Ford for almost 14 years and several other ex-Ford employees work in the unit as well.
