Plastic Recovered New Method

Cleaning product company Method is all set to launch its two-in-one hand and dish soap in new bottles made from a combination of plastic recovered from the ocean and post-consumer recycled plastic.

Method co-founder and chief greenskeeper Adam Lowry said through ocean plastic packaging the company aims to demonstrate that the feasible solution to its plastic pollution problem is using the plastic that is already on the planet.

"By recycling and reusing plastic to make our bottles, we turn off the tap of plastic flowing into our oceans and take the first, most important step toward solving the ocean plastic problem," Lowry said.

Nearly all of the company's packaging is made from 100% post-consumer recycled material, which is a better way to reuse plastic and prevent it from going to landfills and oceans.

Method partnered with recycler Envision Plastics to develop a new recycling process to manufacture the bottles.

In the process rigid, opaque plastics recovered from the ocean will be cleaned, blended and remanufactured into recycled plastic that is similar to virgin high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic.

Method's intention was to leave the plastic in its natural state, and the gray color is due to chopping, washing and blending undergoes during recycling. The package texture was drawn based on a sea urchin, with small ridges running the length of the bottle.
