Autonation Not to Sell Recalled Vehicles

US based automotive retailer, AutoNation will not sell, lease or wholesale any new or used vehicle that falls under open safety recall.

AutoNation is one of the largest automotive retailers in the US with 293 vehicle franchises across the country and the new policy will be applied across all its franchises.

The retailer has to pay a hefty price for the decision, as adequate parts are not always immediately available and it has to keep the vehicles in inventory until they are repaired. However, the company said that the additional cost is worth the investment, as it will ensure safety of its customers.

AutoNation will accept vehicles as trade-ins even if they have been subjected to open safety recalls.

AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson said: "There's no way to expect that customers would or should know of every safety recall on every vehicle they might purchase, so we will ensure that our vehicles have all recalls completed.

"We make it our responsibility as a retailer to identify those vehicles and remove them from the market until their safety issues have been addressed."
