Atria to Invest €14m to Improve Lagerberg's Production Operations

Finnish meat processor Atria has announced that it would invest €14m to improve operations at poultry firm Lagerberg which was recently acquired by it.

The company will make investments over the next three years to improve the entire production chain, from chicken rearing and industrial production to the strengthening of Lagerbergs' brand.

The investment is aimed at modernizing and rebuilding the existing production facilities at the Norjeby factory.

Atria expects to see a significant increase in the plant's production capacity as a result of the spending.

Besides, Atria plans to build new chicken rearing facilities near the plant.

In April, the company obtained the approval of Swedish Competition and Consumer Authority to complete the €18m acquisition of Lagerberg. The acquisition enabled to expand Atria's business in Sweden into white meat processing.

The acquisition is expected to increase Atria's annual net sales by around €30m.

Lagebergs has a production plant and its own chicken rearing facilities in Blekinge, Southern Sweden. It is the third largest supplier on the Swedish chicken market, employing 120 people.

Atria's has operations across Nordic countries, Russia and the Baltic region, with over 110 years of experience in the sector.

The group is divided into four business areas: Atria Finland, Atria Scandinavia, Atria Russia and Atria Baltic. The company's customer groups include consumer goods retailers, food service customers and the food industry.

In May last year, it acquired Denmark-based organic cold cuts producer Aalbaek Specialiteter to strengthen its position in cold cuts market in Denmark.

Earlier this month, it announced to invest €36m to reorganize its pig cutting plant at Nurmo in order to increase its productivity levels.
