The Bananagrams Challenge to Return for 2017

The Challenge that has attracted 35,000 kids from across the UK to date has found success in the US with international expansion on the horizon.

The Bananagrams Challenge is making its return to primary schools up and down the country for 2017.

Registration is now open for the challenge that first burst onto the scene in 2015 and to date has attracted more than 35,000 UK school children.

The free-to-enter Challenge is open to kids aged seven to 11, encouraging them to ‘Go Wild With Words’ against their classmates in a series of Bananagrams games.

Through a process of elimination, each school will whittle down challengers to find its champion who will then go on to compete against children from across the UK in a number of online games.

12 of the finest Bananagrams players will earn a place at the Live Grand Final in London, an event to be held in April 2017. By the end of the day, one skillful wordsmith will be crowned Top Banana 2017 and land their school a £1,000 cash prize.

All finalists meanwhile will receive a Bananagrams Goodie Bag.

Rena Nathanson, CEO of Bananagrams, said: “With over 25,000 children from 750 schools from around the UK entering our 2016 Bananagrams Challenge, we have been overwhelmed by the level of interest in the game, the challenge and most importantly, the words.

“At the heart of the game is fun but ultimately gameplay enhances a player’s appreciation of language, spelling and literacy, making Bananagrams an ideal tool for boosting literacy among UK primary school children.

“Now in our third year, I believe we have got the perfect formula for getting the game into the hands of thousands of children and their teachers, encouraging fun with words and engaging new fans year on year.”

The Bananagrams Challenge has also found success across the pond, having launched in the US this year to a ‘resounding success’ and attracting more than 10,000 pupils from across New England.

Expanding the challenge internationally is now a big focus for the Bananagrams growth plan.

Each school to register receives a free Bananagrams Challenge Wlecome Pack worth over £40, providing teachers with everything needed to run their school’s challenge, including two Bananagrams games.
