US-based automotive powertrain components supplier BorgWarner has introduced a new HY-VO chain drives for various automotive powertrains.

The new chain, which was developed in collaboration with Toyota, features improved tooth geometry with two different tooth shapes designed to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).

HY-VO chain links are said to offset noise, when set in a specific pattern, without the need for spring links that were employed in previous designs.

According to the company, the new HY-VO chain drives offer lower cost, lower noise, improved efficiency and greater center distance tolerance compared to the traditional gear drives.

BorgWarner Morse TEC president and general manager Joe Fadool said using testing and simulation capabilities, the company developed the next-generation HY-VO chain to help improve fuel economy without sacrificing the quiet ride drivers expect.

"We are pleased to continue our nearly 35-year relationship with Toyota with our latest advancements in chain technology," Fadool added.

HY-VO chain drives transfer cases is said to be suitable for the Lexus GX and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, 4Runner, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser.
