GKN Driveline has produced a complete all-wheel drive (AWD) system in China for SAIC Motors’ new MG GS compact SUV.
With this development, the company has become the first global tier one supplier to design such product.
In addition to AWD, GKN supplies the front wheel-drive system for MG GS compact SUV.
GKN and HUAYU Automotive's joint venture, Shanghai GKN HUAYU Driveline systems (SDS) has integrated the AWD system into the MG GS.
The system is designed to switch between AWD and two-wheel drive mode, to offer best possible efficiency, traction and performance, GKN said.
GKN Automotive CEO Andrew Reynolds Smith said: "GKN's innovative technology, backed by our global development and production footprint, is enabling OEMs to create new vehicles to meet market demand, with the innovation, capability and dynamics they want."
The MG GS incorporates GKN's software that takes data from vehicle and driveline sensors to offer dynamic torque distribution functions which are said to control slip in icy and low grip conditions as well as improve traction on- and off-road.
