Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Processors Will Deliver up to 75% "Better" Performance

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors will deliver up to 75% "better" performance compared with Snapdragon S4 Pro, said the firm as it announced sampling at CES.

Snapdragon 600 is also sampling, and will deliver up to 40% better performance than the S4 Pro.

Computation on the 800 comes from the firm's Krait 400 CPU in quad configuration, running at up to 2.3GHz per core, and the chip is being fabricated on a 28nm process.

The graphics processor (GPU), Adreno 330, is said to have double the performance of the existing Adreno 320.

A 2x32bit LP-DDR3 800MHz memory interface has a bandwidth of 12.8Gbit/s, and the DSP (dubbed Hexagon V5) has floating point support, dynamic multithreading and expanded multimedia instructions.

Capabilities include capture, playback and display in UltraHD (4x 1080p) video, display resolutions up to 2560x2048, and Miracast 1080p HD support.

Also in there, is location technology that "combines multiple tracking systems into a single navigation platform for auto and pedestrian applications", called IZat, a 4G LTE modem with data rates up to 150Mbit/s, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Commercial devices are planned for mid-2013.

The 600 has a Krait 300 quad-core CPU with speeds up to 1.9GHz, a faster Adreno 320 GPU, and support for LPDDR3 memory.

Commercial devices are expected in "by second quarter 2013".

Qualcomm is at CES in South Hall 3, upper level, stand 30313.
