Establish a New Trim Shop and Upgrade Its Press Room

American automaker General Motors is investing $50m to establish a new Trim Shop and upgrade its Press Room at the Lordstown Complex, Ohio, in order to support the build of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan.

The company has already begun some construction work at the complex. Chevrolet plans to announce timing of the next generation Cruze later.

Lordstown plant manager Bob Parcell said that the investment will enhance the customer responsiveness while providing the team with the tools and processes needed to be the best at building the next generation Cruze.

Meanwhile, UAW Locals 1112 and 1714 have announced they are purchasing the 1 millionth Cruze, which was built at Lordstown on 10 April. The milestone Cruze will be raffled to a Lordstown employee with all ticket proceeds donated to local charities.

The Chevrolet Cruze for North America was launched at Lordstown 8 September 2010. In 2013, Lordstown launched the all-new Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel.

Since 2009, General Motors has invested about $250m at Lordstown. According to the company, the complex has built more than 15 million vehicles since opening in April 1966.
