Bandalero Pack Targeted Multi Packs

Ted Coulson, managing director of CCL Concept and Developments, has created the Bandalero Pack. Speaking to Packaging News, he said that his development targeted multi packs.

With each cycle, up to 12 products are fed side by side directly into a wide corrugated film or foil, one product per corrugation. A lidding film or foil is then sealed to the top of the corrugations enclosing the products in tubes. Gusseted fin end seals are then introduced either side of the products, forming primary wrapped multi packs.

Coulson added that these multi packs are then perforated or cut between products to create singly wrapped, tear off multi packs of sixes, fours, threes, twos or singles. He said that packs can also be folded and sealed into four sided wallet packs, replacing cartons.

“Flat Multi Packs are singly wrapped and save 50% or more packaging material compared to conventional double wrapped packs,” said Coulson. “Folded Multi Packs require no carton, saving material, machinery and labour.”

He said that a Bandalero Packaging machine has an output equivalent to up to 12 times that of a conventional flow wrapper. It means individual portion packs can be packed on a single machine with “no loss of process machine capacity”.

Coulson added : “In use, any remaining Bandalero Packs stay intact as a pack, but conventional double wrapped multi packs generally spill all unused content after opening. Production lines are simplified, require far fewer operators, also, wider film allows the use of larger diameter film reels, and pack count changes can be made ‘on the run’.”
