Honda Will Adopt a Twin-Pronged Strategy

Japanese automotive giant Honda will adopt a twin-pronged strategy, involving the promotion of a global operation framework across six regions and designing challenging products.

This has been disclosed by new Honda president and CEO Takahiro Hachigo while unveiling his vision about the company's future plans.

"My role is to build a bottom-up environment where teams 'at the spot' can take action based on their own initiatives. The goal of Team Honda is to have a strong bond with our customers through challenging products created by such teams 'at the spot'," Hachigo added.

Commenting on the six-region specific operations set-up, Hachigo said it was possible for the company to come up with exclusive models for a specific zone due to the presence of manufacturing plant and sales unit in every region.

While the regional output capacity would be exploited for conducting businesses worldwide, the inter-regional relationships would be boosted by global headquarters.

For instance, some North American Fit and European Jazz models would hail from Japan, while Civic 5-door would be made available to other regions from Europe, according to Hachigo.

Honda's Nigeria unit will start producing the Honda Accord in July, displaying a planned output capacity of 1,000 units a year and marking for the first time that the company's vehicles will be made in Africa.

Besides, Honda will start delivery of HF120 jet engine and HondaJet light business jet aircraft, riding high on its 30-year-long research in aviation. The next-generation Civic will be armed with a new platform and downsized turbo engine.

Honda is also working towards designing a Walking Assist Device for the benefit of the people hit by impediment in personal mobility, aiming to launch the product on a commercial basis in Japan before this year-end.
