Audi Increasing Production of Its First Plug-in Hybrid Model

Audi is increasing production of its first plug-in hybrid model, Audi A3 Sportback e-tron at the company’s main plant in Ingolstadt, Germany.

Initially the company produced 30 cars per day and now Audi is planning to increase the production capacity to 50 units per day.

A3 Sportback e-tron is powered by a 1.4 TFSI combustion engine with a 75 kW electric motor which provides a total system output of 204 horsepower.

The vehicle has fuel consumption of 1.5 liters per 100 kilometers and emits 35 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

It is capable of going up to 50 kilometers in electric mode and more than 890 kilometers on its gasoline engine.

AUDI AG board of management member for production Dr. Hubert Waltl said: "We started series production of the in the summer.

"Most of the assembly work is integrated into the A3 line; no separate manufacturing is necessary. That demonstrates the flexibility and efficiency of our production planners and employees."

The company has emphasized upon the safety of its employees and it has given special technical safety instructions for the new technology to the employees who come into contact with A3 Sportback e tron.

Ingolstadt plant head Peter Kossler said, "Working with high-voltage systems in series production was a new challenge for us, but we mastered it well. At all stages of assembly, we achieve maximum levels of safety for our employees and quality for our customers."
