Cow&Gate Issues Recall of Baby Food Product Over Presence of Moth Larvae

UK-based baby food company Cow & Gate has initiated a precautionary recall of 19,000 packets of its 330gms Cow & Gate Sunny Start My First Banana Muesli from 10 months after a few customers complained of having found moth larvae in the product.

The product, which carries a best before date of 27/09/2016, was recalled after having received 19 complaints of finding moth larvae in the packaged food across the UK, according to company spokesman Helen Messenger.

The company has issued a public apology and has reassured customers that it maintains food safety standards at its factory and is committed to providing quality food. It also stated that an investigation has been launched and necessary steps would be taken consequentially to ensure that the incident does not occur again.

The company has urged customers who have purchased the affected product to return them at the store of purchase for refund and they could contact the company through a helpline given on its website or through email. The company assures that all queries associated with the recalled product will be attended to.

The company said that no other products were affected by the recall.

Regarding the recall, the Food Safety Agency stated: "This product is not suitable for consumption because the presence of foreign bodies such as insect.

"Cow & Gate has recalled the affected batch, notified its customers and displayed point-of-sale recall notices in stores."
