Polaroid Brand Will Now Be Found on TVs and Home-Theater Devices

Polaroid, a brand that's had a somewhat tumultuous recent history, will now be found on a line of TVs, Blu-ray and DVD players, and other home-theater accessories manufactured by an entity called SU Holdings Group for sale in the U.S and Canada.

We don't know much—and couldn't find much—about SU Holdings. In a prepared statement announcing the deal, the company said it will offer a lineup of LED TVs that range from 19 to 50 inches, as well as an Android-powered soundbar that lets users "access media" and "navigate the Internet."

For you electronics-industry buffs, here's a bit of Polaroid's recent history: The Polaroid brand is currently administered by PLR IP Holdings. The "original" Polaroid declared bankruptcy in 2001, reorganized, and licensed its brand to the Petters Group Worldwide, which bought the rights in 2005. Petters filed for bankruptcy protection in 2008 after an FBI investigation discovered that the company was being run as a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme. A group of investors (Hilco Consumer Capital and Gordon Brothers) acquired the Polaroid brand in 2009, and launched a new company, PLR IP Holdings.

We hope to learn more about SU Holdings Group and its new line of products here at CES.
