Honda Plans to Launch New Intelligent Transportation Technology Focusing on Vehicle Safety

Honda is planning to launch new intelligent transportation technology primarily focusing on vehicle safety at the 2014 ITS World Congress in Detroit, to be held between 7th September to to 11 September.

The technologies will include V2V "Virtual Tow", a connected car technology which will enable one driver to assist another driver regarding emergency service in case of an accident through the vehicle via connected-car (V2V) technology and automated system.

Honda is also planning to introduce Lane-level Hazard information plus Automated Lane Change technology which will inform drivers about a potential hazard in the lane of the vehicle with a live image and details.

The details would allow the driver to automatically change the lane and continue with uninterrupted drive.

Vehicle-to-Pedestrian/Bicycle (V2P/B) technology might also be unveiled at the show which can be used to detect and alert the drivers and pedestrians regarding a potential collision through the V2P/B smartphone application.

Another similar application named Vehicle-to-Motorcycle will function just like V2P/B between motorcycles and other vehicles.

Honda R&D America president Frank Paluch said: "The creation and deployment of advanced, intelligent transportation systems represent the new frontier in the effort to one day eliminate traffic collisions, injuries and fatalities."

"We will demonstrate our vision for realizing Honda's dream of a collision-free society by showcasing our continued technological innovations in active safety, connected and automated vehicle technology."
