BYD America Has Signed a Contract to Introduce Electric Vehicles and Green Products

Chinese automaker BYD Motors' subsidiary, BYD America has signed a contract to introduce electric vehicles and green products for public transportation in Aruba.

As part of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the automaker will support Aruba to showcase the conversion of the vehicles, including cars, buses, taxis and all private and public vehicles into electrified transportation.

The MOU is expected to support Aruba's plans to be the first Nation with a completely zero-carbon emission and energy independence, and has four major objectives including the conversion of the vehicles.

Aruba Prime Minister Mike Eman said, "This document signifies both parties interests and commitment to work together to introduce electric vehicles and green products in Aruba."

Other aims of the MOU include increasing the renewable energy generation, making the resources dispatchable on demand with distributed energy storage as well as public re-education and sustainability programs in all schools across the country.

In all of the aims, the country plans to use BYD green-technologies, which include BYD solar generation, external and internal LED lighting systems, and electric vehicles, to become an emissions-free Nation by 2020.

Additionally, Aruba is planning to use four units BYD all-electric buses and one BYD e6 electric taxi for its fleet for government use by September-end 2013.
