The Amiibo range will hit shelves in late November and will be bolstered with new card games and further, smaller figures in the near future.

Nintendo has revealed its plans to ‘make more use of NFC technology’ with an Amiibo card range and smaller, cheaper Amiibo figures.

The firm’s managing director, Shigeru Miyamoto told Nintendo investors that the company “should have put more effort into using the technology much earlier, but is moving forward with projects to use it in a variety of ways.”

The Amiibo product range – a collection of figures that uses toys-to-life tech similar to that of Skylanders and Disney Infinity – will expand to include cards in the future.

“We will also launch smaller and even more affordable Amiibo figures in the future, so we hope that with this variety of price points, consumers will be able to enjoy a number of Amiibo,” said Miyamoto.

The first wave of Amiibo figures will hit the US on November 21st before launching in European shops a week later, reports Computer and Video Games.

The first collection will feature Mario, Peach, Yoshi, donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Pikachu, Kirby and Marth and will be priced at £10.99 in the UK.

“Nintendo is known as a videogame company, but in fact, it is also a toy company,” continued Miyamoto. “Toys must make consumers feel a sense of wonder.”
