The Audi Q5 Is out to Preserve Its Lead as The Nation's Favourite Luxury SUV

The Audi Q5 is out to preserve its lead as the nation's favourite luxury SUV with an update that brings improved engines, practicality and value.

Audi's mid-sized SUV continues to start from$62,200 for a turbo diesel and from$62,900 for a turbo petrol, with both four-cylinder variants gaining extra features valued at about$6500.

Six-cylinder versions comprise a supercharged petrol V6 and turbo diesel V6,which rise by$1100 and$500 to$74,100 and$75,500 respectively but add more equipment Audi says totals about$7000.

Additions for the 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI include Audi's Drive Select driving-behaviour-changing system, tyre pressure monitoring, hill hold assist, extra storage, power front seats with lumbar adjust, keyless entry and a change from 17-inch alloy wheels to 18s.

Continuing as standard are eight airbags(including exclusive-to-segment rear side airbags),leather seats,10-speaker audio,rain-sensing wipers and inlays made of genuine aluminium or wood.

The V6 models gain power seats for front passenger as well as driver,Drive Select, hill hold assist,MMI with navigation, rear view camera, and side mirrors with memory setting and auto dipping function.

The Audi Q5's range of petrol and diesel engines are all revised or all-new,improving power and fuel economy for the units they supersede, there are subtle styling changes for the exterior and interior, and the chassis has been revised for improved ride quality.

The middle model of Audi's trio of SUVs that also include the smaller Q3 and larger Q7 has been a sales success since its local launch in 2009.

In year to date sales to November this year, the Q5 has amassed 2618 sales to be the No.1 luxury SUV,though has grown only 1.6 per cent while the second-generation BMW X3 has lifted by 24 per cent to 2310,the new Range Rover Evoque has made a great debut with 2338 sales so far,and Volvo's XC60 is faring well with 2035.

Audi Australia is confident the updated Q5 will fend of its closing rivals.

"The Q5 is currently leading the segment against XC60,Evoque and X3,and we now have a number of updates, good pricing,so it's a strong value proposition,"says John Roberts,Audi Australia's product planning manager.

"We think Q5 is in a really strong position to hold its lead in the segment."
