Nissan to Expand Its Workforce in Its North American Plants to Meet Its Production Goals

Nissan is reportedly planning to expand its workforce by adding 1,000 additional workers in its North American plants to meet its production goals.

Presently Nissan's plants in Mississippi, Tennessee and Mexico are operating in three shifts and it has production capacity of 350,000 vehicles which is expected to expand to 507,000 units in 2017.

Nissan is building a $1.4 bn plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico which is expected to be operated in partnership with Daimler and will produce luxury vehicles for Mercedes-Benz and Infiniti.

In North America, at the Smyrna, Tennessee plant Nissan is likely to produce 640,000 vehicles in 2014 which includes Altima, Leaf, Maxima,Rogue, QX60 and Pathfinder.

Nissan is also planning to source 85% of its North American sales through local factories, reported Automotive News.
