Balqon Has Signed a Joint Development Deal with Polar Power to Produce Series Plug

American electric drive system technology developer Balqon has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Polar Power to produce series plug in hybrid system for its line of heavy duty electric trucks and buses.

As part of the agreement, both companies will operate collaboratively to produce 40kw on-board DC hybrid generator to charge batteries during daily drive cycle.

Balqon CEO and president Balwinder Samra said that integration of on-board generator in their 2014 model year vehicles allows them to address increased range applications for heavy duty trucks and buses used at ports, airports and distribution warehouses, while still providing our customer with lower operating cost and emissions of an electric drive train.

"We believe Polar Power's decades of experience in developing and integrating DC powered generator systems provides us the opportunity to jointly address the growing need for lower emission heavy duty vehicles in global markets," Samra added.

Polar Power CEO Arthur Sams said: "Our experience in DC generators and hybrid industrial/commercial and military vehicles combined with Balqon's experience in heavy duty electric drive system provides both companies an opportunity to expand our markets in stationary, marine and mobile power applications."

Balqon offers zero emission heavy duty trucks and drive systems with a capacity of transporting 30 ton cargo containers. Products offered by the company include Model XRE20 yard tractor for port drayage applications powered by lithium batteries.
