Sharp Upped The Ante by Releasing a 90-Inch TV in Australia

Sharp has upped the ante by releasing a 90-inch (229 cm) TV in Australia, a device even larger than 84-inch giants launched here last year by Sony and LG.

Unlike the 84-inch models, Sharp’s LC-90LE740X is not an ultra-high definition TV. It is a LED 1080p high definition TV that uses what Sharps calls AquoMotion 200 to reduce the blur that creeps in when TVs are blown up to such large sizes.

The new Sharp TV is 3D capable and has wireless LAN connectivity.

In a TV market where size it seems really does matter, Sharp is invoking the “envy factor” as part of its marketing strategy for a TV it describes as “not for the faint of heart”.

“The LC-90LE740X will be a feature of the lounge room and the envy of your friends, measuring 2054 x 1211 x 116mm without the stand (68mm at the thinnest point) or 2054 x 1243 x 434 with the stand,” Sharp Australia said in a statement.

“We’re so proud to be bringing Australia the ‘viewmongous’ 90” LED LCD TV. In time for all the New Year’s sports seasons, Australians are going to love this TV. The high quality Japanese-made LCD makes at-home viewing a real occasion and all the more enjoyable,” said Mark Beard, Sharp’s national marketing manager in Australia.

The 90-inch Sharp is not the largest TV in the world. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month, Samsung showcased a whopping 110-inch model with four times the resolution of standard high definition (1080p) TV.

The new Sharp will go on sale in Australia this month for a recommended price of $20,999.
