Subaru Recalled 47,419 Vehicles in The Us and Canda

Subaru, the automobile manufacturing division of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), has recalled 47,419 vehicles in the US and 2,819 vehicles in Canada over issues over self starting feature.

The recall affects the 2012-13 Impreza, 2010-13 Legacy, 2010-13 Outback and 2013 XV Crosstrek vehicles, equipped with an automatic or continuous variable timing (CVT) transmission and an Audiovox remote engine starter (RES).

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the RES fob would malfunction when dropped and send an engine start request to the vehicle that may start and run the engine for up to fifteen minutes.

The start and stop of the engine is expected to continue until the fob's battery is exhausted, or the fuel in the vehicle is completed, leading to the risk of carbon monoxide build-up when the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area.

Keyless entry cars are not affected by the recall, and the recall is expected to start in April 2013, according to the company.
