Recyclable Packaging Offers New Design, Improved Functionality

SunOpta’s brand Sunrich Naturals, a non-dairy, shelf stable beverages producer, is all set to introduce its SoL Sunflower Beverage line in new Tetra Pak cartons.

Sunrich used the Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge design to produce packaging for its SoL beverage's flavors, original, unsweetened and vanilla as well as its line of soymilks.

The recyclable packaging offers new design, improved functionality for consumers of all ages, and a better environmental profile.

SunOpta Grains & Foods Group Consumer Products sales & marketing vice president Tina Nelson said the new Tetra Brik Aseptic Edge packaging is ideal for SoL and all of the company's non-dairy beverages.

"It offers superior preservation of the fresh taste and nutritional content of the product in addition to prolonged shelf life," Nelson said.

Design improvements for the new Edge carton include a sloping top, which makes it convenient to access, grasp and open the ridged cap, and a wider opening that makes the product easier to pour.

Composed of 70% paper, the cartons possess a low carbon footprint throughout their entire life cycle, as they are made mainly of paperboard and use less material compared to a can or bottle.

Space-efficient Tetra Pak cartons can also be shipped in bulk at a time, saving energy in transportation and using minimum amount of corrugate packaging in the process to deliver the end products safely.

Sunrich Naturals will introduce the product in new packaging at Natural Products Industry Expo West, taking place from 7-10 March 2013 in Anaheim, California.
