11, 489 Fj Cruiser SUV Will Be Recalled by Toyota

Japanese automaker Toyota Motor is planning to recall 11,489 units of its FJ Cruiser sports utility vehicles (SUV), due to a problem with the headlights.

The recall affects 2007-2013 model year vehicles that were produced from 25 January 2006 to 23 February 2013 and are having the Toyota Auxiliary Driving Lamp Kits.

Headlights of the vehicles are fitted with the 55W bulbs, which generate a beam with the combination of upper beam headlamps and the auxiliary lamps that surpasses the maximum light output allowed for an upper beam headlamp.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the bright lights can cause temporary blindness for oncoming drivers leading to increased risk of a crash.

The automaker will replace the 55W bulbs with 35W bulbs free of charge, as part of recall, which is expected to begin in late May 2013.
