Harman Came to International CES with Vehicle-Specific Aftermarket Car-Audio Upgrade

Harman came to International CES with vehicle-specific aftermarket car-audio upgrade packages tailored for specific vehicles.

Harman Vehicle Specific Audio Upgrades feature components designed to fit into the original factory location and plug into the existing factory wire harness with no splicing or fabrication. The packages include speakers, enclosed subwoofers, and a digital amplifier acoustically tuned, time-aligned and equalized for specific vehicles.

The first system rolled out recently outside the U.S., and additional systems will be rolled out worldwide in the coming months, including the first U.S. system intended for the Jeep Wrangler.

Similarly, Harman announced Vehicle Specific Infotainment Upgrade packages, which can be installed by dealers or consumers to deliver software upgrades to Harman’s Semi-OEM factory infotainment systems.

The upgrade features a small snap-in box connected to a prewired cradle that can be installed by an automaker, dealer or consumer. Once installed, the device connects to the existing car infrastructure, such as steering-wheel buttons and OEM touch screens. The cradle enables OEM-system software upgrades that can take less than 30 seconds, the company said.

With the Specific Infotainment Upgrade packages, automakers can extend the lifespan of in-car infotainment solutions to match the eight- to 10-year lifespan of a car, Harman said.

The company is exhibiting at the Hard Rock, where it is also launching:

--Infinity marine speakers.

-- mid-priced JBL GX car speakers, which updates and replaces the GTO-8 series.

--and JBL marine speakers.
