GM Recalls 1 Million Pickup Trucks Over Seatbelt Issue

General Motors (GM) has announced a recall of more than one million pickup trucks due to a seat belt flaw.

The company said the recall of the 2014-15 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups is not linked to any crashes, injuries or fatalities.

The recall in the US includes 895,232 vehicles and a stop-sale of about 3,000 new 2014 and 2015 model year pickups still on dealer lots.

The flexible steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle is found to fatigue and separate when the driver repeatedly bends the cable while entering the seat.

GM is voluntarily recalling and repairing the models in other countries where they are sold, including Canada, Mexico, and other countries in Latin America and the Middle East.

The company said that the cost of this replacement might not be very high and would be covered under normal warranty reserves.

Last December, GM's Indian division recalled 101,597 units of Chevrolet Beat Diesel due to issues with its clutch pedal lever.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 2010 and July 2014.

Earlier this year, GM temporarily suspended its operations in Egypt. The move is part of the company's efforts to reduce losses due to slide in value of local currency.
