Volvo Reveals Its Plug-in Hybrid Variant of Xc90 Named Xc90 T8

Volvo has revealed its plug-in hybrid variant of XC90 named XC90 T8 which is designed to provide a performance of a luxury SUV while keeping emission level of a small hybrid car.

Volvo Introduces Plug-in Hybrid Version of XC90

The 7-seater SUV is powered by 2-litre, 4-cylinder Drive-E engine along with an electric motor with 270-400V battery which combines to produce 400 horsepower and pump 640Nm of torque.

The emission level of the plug-in SUV is 59g/km which complies with the US driving cycle, and it has fuel efficiency of 2.5 l/100km.

XC90 T8 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds and offers five driving modes which includes Hybrid mode; which is suitable for everyday use, Pure electric mode; which only uses the battery to fuel the car and provides driving range up to 40km.

Power mode, which is designed to combine the performance of engine and the electric motor and all wheel drive mode.

The fifth mode is Save, which freezes the battery level and save it for later use. It also allows the driver to use the combustion engine to charge the battery if the battery gets low.

The vehicle also features 8-speed automatic gearbox which is specially designed for hybrid technology, Two-step braking system, and an electric motor which is fitted on the rear axle to provide a Unique cooling and climate system.

Volvo Car R&D senior vice president Dr Peter Mertens said: "The XC90 T8 is a plug-in electric car, hybrid car and high-performance car rolled into one.

"The Drive-E engines already offer highly competitive performance versus the competition. The T8 takes it further into a leading position."
