Lextar sees 26-month high August revenues;Neo-Neon to start production of COB LED tubes Siu Han,Taipei;Adam Hwang,DIGITIMES[Tuesday 4 September 2012]Taiwan-based Lextar Electronics brought in consolidated revenues of NT$965 million(US$32.2 million)for August,the highest monthly level since July 2010,while Taiwan-listed LED own-brand lighting maker Neo-Neon Holdings will kick off volume production of LED light tubes based COB(chip on board)technology in the fourth quarter of 2012,according to the companies.
Lextar's August consolidated revenues increased by 4.55%on month and by 10.03%on year,while its January-August consolidated revenues of NT$6.692 billion rose by 15.31%on year.The revenue growth was due to increased shipments of LED bars used in LCD monitors and direct-type LED-backlit LCD TVs of 50 inches and larger,Lextar indicated.Lextar has begun shipments of next-generation LED light tubes to OEM clients in the US and will soon begin shipments of LED dowlights to North America,the company noted.Consolidated revenues for the third quarter of 2012 will grow sequentially based on orders received,Lextar pointed out.
Neo-Neon has made technological breakthrough to produce COB devices with luminous efficiency reaching 160lm/W and thereby is able to produce 135lm/W LED light tubes which are packed in metal substrates to increase heat dissipation,the company pointed out.
COB can result in lower production cast than SMD.For example,prices for an 8W LED light bulb based on COB are about 20%lower than those for the same models based on SMD,Neo-Neon indicated.The adoption of COB technology for production of LED light tubes has three advantages,35%higher luminous efficiency than use of SMD technology,efficient heat dissipation and easy packaging and assembly,Neo-Neon explained.
