Sonoco Provides Melitta with Paperboard Composite Cans

Global packaging company Sonoco has provided Melitta USA with new paperboard composite cans made from recycled and recyclable content to replace with traditional metal coffee cans.

According to Sonoco, Melitta has converted its 603 and 401 volume coffee cans to Sonoco's lighter weight composite container, which delivers a reduced environmental footprint. The rigid containers are said to weigh less compared to metal cans.

Melitta USA vice president Jeff Bridges said with the new cans, the company is offering the same product in a package that the consumers can feel good about purchasing a lighter weight option made from renewable and recyclable materials.

"Additionally, we were very pleased with the conversion process," Bridges said.

Spiral-wound from 100% recycled paperboard, the can includes a liner that locks out moisture and locks in product aroma and taste and its smooth surface provides good graphic bill boarding and shelf appeal due to absence of ribs on it.

Melitta USA, part of the Melitta Group of Minden, Germany is responsible for the sales and marketing of Melitta coffee filters, coffee and non electric coffee systems in the US.
