Technology for Tesla's fully autonomous cars is expected to be ready within the next five to six years, which will enhance vehicle safety.
The company is working on autonomous driving technology for electric vehicle and is in talks with auto suppliers to bring more autonomous parts, said Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk as cited in The Wall Street Journal.
The website further reported Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk as saying: "They will be a factor of 10 safer than a person [at the wheel] in a six-year time frame."
"Once the technology is available, it likely would take several more years, however, to work out the regulatory impediments."
Musk believes that the ability for computers to recognize objects or machine vision technology has to be improved for complete implementation.
In addition to autonomous cars, the company is also expecting free cash flow, beginning in the third quarter of next year which would allow the company to build its $5bn gigafactory in Nevada.
