BP is putting its global messaging infrastructure into a private cloud to benefit from pay-per-use functionality and the flexibility to easily scale up and down the number of users.
Over 83,000 staff at BP will be connected to the cloud.
BP is putting Microsoft Exchange 2010 into a private cloud from T-Systems as part of a five-year contract upgrading from Exchange 2003.
“We are looking forward to working as partners with T-Systems to enable BP employees to connect and collaborate using any device, anywhere, at any time,” said Dana Deasy, BP Group CIO.
Pilots will beginning immediately with the full migration of systems expected in 10 months.
BP will pay for the service as it uses it and will be able to reduce time and costs dedicated to adding and removing users.
T-Systems is working with EMC Consulting to carry out the mailbox migration process, which involves over 100,000 mailboxes moving to the T-Systems private cloud.
The cloud will sit in T-Systems' datacentres.
T-Systems is part of BP’s outsourcing ecosystem which sees it work directly with seven suppliers. Before establishing this group it worked with 3,000 suppliers.
