Continental Will Cost Beyond $35m to Enlarge Manufacturing Facility in US

Automotive parts supplier Continental will invest over $35m over the next five years to expand its manufacturing facility in Henderson, North Carolina in the US.

The investment will be used for the construction of about 88,000sqft of additional production and warehouse space, as well as the installation of new production equipment.

The expansion is expected to increase the production capacity of the plant that will support the company in meeting the increased demand for electronic integrated parking brake (e-IPB) in the region.

Continental Henderson facility plant manager Jeff Scott said that the facility has been challenged with a 34% year-over-year increase in demand for the company's brake calipers since 2009.

"The growing demand in our products has created a great business opportunity for us to invest, expand and hire, Scott added.

According to the company, the Henderson plant produced seven million calipers in 2012 to meet the increasing demand across North America and the production rate is expected to increase to about 9 million units in 2013 and continue to grow during 2014.

The 250,000sqft manufacturing facility produces brake calipers for automobiles and light trucks.
