ACH Food Companies Issues Voluntary Recall of Salad Toppings Due to Possible Health Risk Related to Sunflower Seeds

ACH Food Companies is recalling Durkee Salad Topping, Food Club branded Salad Topping and Hy-Vee Garden Style Salad Topping because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

ACH has received no reports of illness to date, but is taking this voluntary action as a precaution to ensure the health and safety of everyone who enjoys our products.

The recall is the result of the expanded recall of sunflower kernels supplied to us by SunOpta.

These products are distributed throughout the United States and the Dominican Republic through retail stores.

Recalled products can be identified on the Durkee Salad Topping and the Food Club Salad Topping by the "Best By" date and the Hy-Vee product can be identified by its lot code. This information is printed in black ink on the bottom of the plastic product container.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to not consume the product, and either discard the unused portion or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

No other ACH Food Companies, Inc. or Durkee products are included in this recall.
