Zebra Technologies Collaborates with Bosch and ARM to Offer Food Safety Solution

Zebra Technologies in collaboration with Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions and ARM has developed a cloud-based food safety solution that is claimed to be scalable, secure and standards-based.

The collaboration of the trio has resulted in an easily deployable cloud-based temperature monitoring solution that uses wireless sensors, mobile computers along with the Zatar Internet of Things (IoT) cloud service.

Zebra Technologies Enterprise Intelligence Software vice president Tom Ryan said: "Visibility across the food supply chain provides protection for consumers while meeting regulatory demands.  By developing this standards-based solution on Zatar with Bosch and ARM, we are helping businesses build and enable FSMA-compliant food safety solutions."

The new food safety solution uses the Cross Domain Development Kit (XDK) from Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions as well as its newly announced Transport Data Logger (TDL). These monitor different product conditions that include temperature, shock, tilt and humidity.

Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions North America general manager Steffen Zacharias said: “Bosch sensor products and an open standard like ARM mbed will help unlock the benefits of IoT for supply chains. Zebra's answer to food safety solutions provides a future-proof way to protect consumers and will give enterprises powerful tools they need to manage their food supply chains."

Without needing additional fixed gateway devices, both the XDK and TDL directly connect to Zabera’s mbed-enabled cloud service from Zatar IoT. The mbed client was developed by ARM.

ARM IoT business marketing and sales vice president Michael Horne said: "The solution enables integration from devices directly to the cloud, helping enterprise customers achieve cost and efficiency savings as well as providing a more expandable model for developers to build compelling applications on."

Real-time alerts and notifications for proactive actions along with a simple to understand dashboard enables food companies an accurate and easy way of monitoring their products.

Users can remain mobile and connected to information relating to the safety of their food products by using Zero mobile computers and printers that are compatible to the food safety solution.

Another key feature of the standards-based solution is that it offers investment protection besides demonstrating both scalability and interoperability needed by enterprise-class IoT solutions working across the supply chain.
