Apple Is Working to Boost Production of Its Iphones and Ipads

After selling out of the iPhone 5s and suggesting that the iPad mini 2 will be in short supply when it’s released later this month, it looks like Apple is working to boost production of its iPhones and iPads by adding new manufacturing partners to its supply chain.

The Wall Street Journal has this week reported that Apple is trying to ensure that supply of new iPhones and iPads meets consumer demand by adding new contract manufacturing partners in Asia.

That’s according to a source that’s “familiar with the supply chain,” who says that Apple will outsource manufacturing of the iPhone 5c to Taiwan-based Wistron later this year, to help build more iPhones. This should enable Foxconn to produce more iPhone 5s units, as the flagship iPhone is believed to be in short supply.

In addition, Apple reportedly plans to add Compal Communications as a supplier of the iPad mini next year, which could help ease supply constraints that are expected to begin when the iPad mini 2 arrives within the next few weeks.

Wistron and Compal are expected to join Foxconn and Pegatron as Apple’s main manufacturing partners.
