Chevrolet Thailand Launches The Latest Version of The Chevrolet Captiva

Chevrolet Thailand launches the latest version of the Chevrolet Captiva, one of the most successful SUV’s in the market, at the 35th Bangkok International Motor Show.

the Captiva has been Chevrolet's flagship product in Thailand, with over 35,000 units sold, and thousands more sold throughout the region. With the introduction of the new Captiva, Chevrolet has the most up-to-date vehicle portfolio on the market.

"Captiva appeals to those who need an SUV and want it to have an attractive exterior, luxurious interior and impressive performance," said Gustavo Colossi, vice president of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Chevrolet Sales Thailand and GM Southeast Asia Operations. "With the new technology featured in the 2014 Captiva, it's now even more suited for its customers."

The new Captiva comes with Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS), a feature that allows the driver to unlock the doors and start the engine by being in-range of the Captiva's sensors, without having to take the key in his hands.

Captiva's new dual zone climate control allows the driver and front passenger to operate separate temperature settings, which provides improved comfort for the occupants.

Also, the steering wheel-mounted controls are now illuminated, giving the driver a clearer view of the controls in low-light conditions while being able to control the audio system and cruise control functions. The finishing touch is the new upholstery pattern that gives the interior a fresh look.

On the exterior, Captiva has a redesigned front bumper with more elegant fog-light covers. The rear bumper is redesigned with integrated, stylized chrome exhaust tips and new rear light clusters. The new model also comes with integrated stainless steel side steps that allow passengers to get in and out with ease (only on 2.0 diesel LTZ variant). The 'LT' variant also gets new 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. The exterior changes and additions give a sense of added luxury to the new 2014 Captiva.

"Captiva customers in Bangkok like to make a statement with the vehicle they drive. They need it to accommodate an active lifestyle, and that is exactly what Captiva does," said Passapon Skunvisit, director, Sales & Distributions, Chevrolet Sales Thailand. "These customers often get out of the city and go upcountry with their families on weekends, and need the interior flexibility and comfortable ride that Captiva provides."

J.D. Power Asia Pacific recently named Captiva the most Appealing SUV in its 2013 Thailand Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) StudySM. The E85-capable 2.4L gasoline engine Captiva won 'Best SUV' award at the 33rd Bangkok International Motor Show.

Captiva retains its air-conditioner outlets for the comfort of third-row occupants and seats five to seven people comfortably while providing 930 liters of cargo space Captiva's eight-speaker audio system uses Three-Dimensional Sound Staging technology designed to deliver high-definition audio quality.

The new Captiva offers a choice of two powertrains. The E85-capable 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts (DOHC), 16 valves and Double Continuously Variable Cam-Phasing (Double CVC) delivers 168 hp of power and 229 Nm of torque. Captiva is the first in its class to offer E85 capability.

Also available is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with DOHC, 16 valves and a high-pressure common-rail fuel delivery system capable of 360 Nm of torque and 163 hp of power.

More importantly, Captiva's turbo-diesel engine delivers torque from as low as 1,750 rpm and peaks at 2,750 rpm, making it equally capable in city and highway driving. The low engine revolution also contributes to quieter motoring and lower fuel consumption. The 2.0L turbo-diesel Captiva has been well received throughout the region. In 2012, the Ministry of Environment (KLH) Republic of Indonesia named it the best eco-friendly diesel vehicle with the lowest emission during the Blue Sky Expose Program.

Power is delivered to the wheels via a new second generation GF6 six-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control (DSC) - another segment first when it was launched in 2011. The new Captiva is available in two- or four-wheel-drive configurations.

The 2014 Captiva also retains large-diameter anti-roll bars and tuned suspension, featuring independent MacPherson struts in front and independent multi-link setup at rear, elements that provide the SUV with superior handling and driving dynamics. Captiva also features a self-levelling system that automatically maintains a constant ride-height regardless of load, which enhances stability and handling.

Captiva's active and passive stability and safety features include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), traction control, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and ARP (Active Rollover Protection).

Captiva also features Hill Start Assist which prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when the brakes are released on a slope, and Hill Descent Control, which works with ABS and EBD to maintain a constant low speed when descending steep and slippery slopes, maximizing traction and steering control. Captiva has dual front and curtain airbags, and high-power pre-tensioner seatbelts.

The 2014 Captiva goes on sale starting at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Prices of the new Captiva will be announced at the show.
