General Motors (GM) will arm 14 Chevrolet vehicles with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to help drivers focus on road.
Chevrolet Cruze compact car, set for launch in June, will be among these models. Additionally, the technology will be extended to 2016 models of Spark, Cruze, Malibu, Impala and Camaro.
All the 14 models included in this scheme, have contributed to sales of over 2.4 million vehicle in 2014, accounting for 51% of Chevrolet's global figure.
Accessible through a seven-inch MyLink infotainment system, Android Auto functions on Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system and above, while Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or later.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra said, "For most of us, our smartphones are essential.
"Partnering with Apple and Google to offer CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility across the widest range of models in the industry is a great example of how Chevrolet continues to democratize technology that's important to our customers."
Apple CarPlay provides access to the iPhone features while driving and makes them visible on the display.
This not only allows drivers to make calls or send messages but also helps them listen to music via touchscreen or voice via Siri. It also supports third-party apps.
Android Auto offers Google Maps, Google Now and the ability to talk to Google. WhatsApp, Skype, Google Play Music, Spotify, and podcast players, among others, are additional features.
Drivers could manage all the features via voice commands through a button on the wheel and can concentrate more on road.
The eight-inch variant of MyLink will support Apple CarPlay by the beginning of 2016 model year. The Android Auto compatibility is likely to be introduced later that year.
GM's announcement on Android Auto comes a day after Hyundai introduced the app in its 2015 Sonata.
