Paccar and Daimler Are Recalling Thousands of Trucks Equipped with Cummins Westport Engine

Truck manufacturers Paccar and Daimler are recalling thousands of trucks equipped with Cummins Westport Model ISL G and ISLX12 G engines because of a potential issue with the intake manifold pressure sensor.

Earlier this month, engine manufacturers Cummins and Cummins Westport announced a recall of 25,013 natural gas engines.

That’s because in affected engines, water moisture in the intake manifold may freeze in cold weather and interfere with the proper operation of the intake manifold pressure sensor. If the sensor malfunctions, the engine could be improperly fueled, resulting in higher than normal exhaust temperatures or flames from the exhaust pipe. In most cases, this improper operation will result in the engine running rough and misfiring, increasing the risk of a fire or burn injury to a person near the exhaust pipe.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration records show the ISL G engines were also shipped for trucks with the nameplates Western Star, Volvo, Mack and Autocar, but so far only Kenworth, Peterbilt and Freightliner truck models have been recalled.
