Baosteel Will Give Full Play to R & D Advantage of Automobile in High Strength Field

Next stage, Baosteel Co., Ltd. Will give full play to R & D and manufacturing advantage of automobile in high strength field, fully support SAIC promoting the lightweight of its own brand automobile, so as to ensure the steady application of Baosteel high strength steel for lightweight of automobile of SAIC, and finally realize win-win result from such technical strategic cooperation for both--This is the message from Baosteel-SAIC lightweight technical strategic cooperation wrap-up meeting held in Feb. 26th.

General Manager of Baosteel Group, Managing Director of Baosteel Co., Ltd., Party Chief, He Wenbo, General Manager of Baosteel Co., Ltd. Ma Guoqiang, Deputy General Manager of Baosteel Co., Ltd. Wang Jing, Chu Shuangjie, Deputy Managing Director of SAIC, President, Deputy Party Chief Chen Hong, Executive Vice President Chen Zhixin, Vice President Xiao Guopu, Chen Demei, etc. As well as over 40 R & D, marketing and technical service representatives from both companies have attended the meeting.

In recent years, relying on the technical research, accumulation and practices in steel material, Baosteel has developed material stock and application reference in lightweight technology. In 2010, as the key strategic automotive sheet client of Baosteel, SAIC has taken the lead to sign the technical strategic cooperation agreement of lightweight automobile with Baosteel, jointly devoting to R & D of lightweight automobile technology, so as to promote mutual cooperation.

Over the past 2 years, automobile steel joint laboratory has been established to develop high strength, thickness reduction, cost saving technology and lightweight & target cost oriented joint design program for new car. Remarkable improvement has been made in application of whole car lightweight technology of SAIC, and high strength steel R & D, manufacturing, user application technology, stable massive supply of Baosteel. In the next stage, both parties shall make good use of vehicle development platform of SAIC, lightweight automotive sheet technology (high strength steel and advanced manufacturing) and joint laboratory promote lightweight of SAIC own brand car as well as lightweight material and solution of Baosteel through comprehensive application of design, material and manufacturing technology, targeting to solve lightweight technological difficulties.

In the wrap-up meeting, R & D, technical service representatives from both initiated a program report on innovative cooperation, lightweight technology application and early engagement of new type automobile. Profound discussion was implemented between participants on further cooperation and projects.

Chen Hong has reiterated that over the past 2 years' lightweight technology strategic cooperation between Baosteel Co., Ltd. And SAIC, both technical teams have closed operated to solve technical troubles and demands on site, which have enhanced the application proportion of Baosteel's high strength steel in all types of automobiles for SAIC. He hopes that greater lightweight technical application shall be made in self-owned automobiles to jointly improve the market competitiveness.

He Wenbo, Ma Guoqiang have expressed that automotive sheet is the most important strategic product of Baosteel. Baosteel Co., Ltd. Will spare no effort to promote automotive sheet product and service. In the field of high strength steel for automobile, Baosteel will continuously optimize supply chain build-up, further study foresight, systematic feature and application research of lightweight technology, so as to promote further mutual development by actions and fulfill added value and win-win result for supply chain.
