Hyundai Motors Has Delivered The First IX35 FCV Produced at Its Assembly Line

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motors has delivered the first ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles (FCV) produced at its assembly line to the City of Copenhagen in Denmark.

The 15 units of the ix35 FCVs are claimed to be the first hydrogen-powered vehicles manufactured on a production line to be introduced in Europe.

According to the manufacturer, the vehicles will support the city of Copenhagen in achieving its aim of becoming carbon-neutral by 2025, as they produce only water vapor and no other harmful tailpipe emissions.

The ix35 is equipped by an electric motor that generates an output of 100kW (136ps) and offers a top speed of 160km/h.

Two hydrogen storage tanks, which are located between the vehicle's rear axle, have a total capacity of 5,64 kg and offer a travel distance of about 594 km on a single fuelling.

Hyundai Motor began research of the first fuel cell in 1998, while the company's fuel cell technology is developed at its Eco Technology Research Institute in Korea.

The manufacturer plans to produce about 1,000 units of the ix35 Fuel Cell cars by 2015 at its Ulsan factory, in Korea.
