The first half of 2013 saw the Renault Kangoo passenger car and van ranges evolve dramatically with the introduction of a new design, new technologies and the availability of the new Energy dCi 110 diesel engine.
This unit rounded off the model's diesel range, joining the existing 75hp and 90hp Energy powerplants, the most frugal in their class with fuel consumption of 4.3 litres/100km* and 112g of CO2/km*. Now, starting this month, the new Energy TCe 115 petrol engine is available.
This new unit delivers enhanced driveability with pull-away and mid-range acceleration response among the crispest in its class, plus significantly lower combined-cycle fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (6.1 litres/100km* and 140g/km*).
This 115hp petrol engine is a direct-injection, downsized and turbocharged 1.2-litre unit (25 percent smaller than the previous 1.6-litre, 16V petrol engine). Peak torque stands at 190Nm, available from 2,000 to 4,000rpm - with 90 percent on tap from 1,500rpm. At low-speed, therefore, torque is between 30 and 40 percent higher than that of its predecessor for more sprightly performance and responsive mid-range acceleration. This ensures one of the best performance/fuel efficiency ratios in its class.
Meanwhile, the extra cost of this technology package (in relation to the 1.6 16V unit), which offers unprecedented performance advantages, is offset by the customer once they reach 21,000km on an urban cycle or 36,000km* on a combined cycle thanks, chiefly, to the engine's lower fuel consumption. Courtesy of its Stop&Start technology and ESM regenerative braking and deceleration (Energy Smart Management), the Energy TCe 115 engine consumes 22 percent** less fuel than the previous generation of the petrol unit.
At the same time, running costs are kept under control thanks to a market-leading servicing plan (every two years/30,000km*) and the introduction of a maintenance-free timing chain.
New Kangoo Energy TCe 115, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, is on sale in France with prices starting from €19 050 (Serie Limitée Energy TCe 115) for the passenger car version and €14 500 (not including VAT) for the van version.
